Lionel Messi was the hero for Barcelona on Sunday, April 23, 2017 as he scored two goals for his side to beat Real Madrid 3-2 in the much anticipated El Clasico fixture.

Real Madrid started the match on a high note with Ronaldo and Benzema tormenting Barcelona defense before Casemiro scored the first goal for the hosts in the 28th minute amid controversy.

Barcelona responded in the 33rd minute with Lionel Messi scoring the equalizer as both teams went to the break with the scoreline 1-1.

Ivan Rakitic put the visitors ahead in the 73rd minute before Colombian international striker James Rodriquez restored parity for Real Madrid.

The home fans were thinking the match would end in a draw before Lionel Messi broke their hearts as he scored the winner for Barcelona in injury time.
Barcelona have now moved to the top of the La Liga standings with 75 points after 33 games played this season, edging Real Madrid who have a game in hand on goals difference.
