Panama international Amilcar Henriquez shot to death

 - Panama's Amilcar Henriquez was shot multiple times and killed bu gunmen

- The player was leaving his home with two other companions when he was attacked

- The 33-year-old experienced midfielder has played 75 games for Panama

Footballer Amilcar Henriquez has been shot and killed in Panama's Colon province after an attack by gunmen, police officials say.

The Panama International's killing on Saturday was confirmed by Didacio Camargo, press chief for Panama's National Police.

NAIJ.com understands that the 33-year-old midfielder was leaving his home when a gunman shot him several times in an attack that two other people wounded.
Henriquez was taken to a nearby public hospital for operation but he died.

President Juan Carlos Varela condemned the killing on his Twitter account and called for authorities in Colon to hunt down those responsible.

Witnesses said a red Nissan was seen in the area before the attacker got out of the vehicle and fired various times at Henriquez and his companions.

Henriquez was a member of Panama's national team and played the last 10 minutes of the most recent World Cup qualifier against the United States last month, a 1-1 draw.

The 33-year-old experienced midfielder has played 75 games for Panama.

He played his club football for Panamanian giants Arabe Unido and started both legs of their CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal defeat to FC Dallas earlier this year.
